Yum Yum

China Town, China Town! My new favorite restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska. The service is great. The food is superb. I like everything about this unassuming jewel in the Government Hill neighborhood. I especially enjoyed the dumplings/pot stickers. They are undeniably the tastiest, pillow like, steamed and then fried, delicious delicacy that I have had the pleasure of placing in my mouth in many, many moons. I have eaten many a dumpling in my gastronomic career, but these pockets of spiced pork are the real, deal, Chinese meal. The dumplings are served with a soy dipping sauce with chopped green onions, but you can also ask for the spicy sauce that's a pulverized red chili paste. The complimentary appetizer at China Town is pickled vegetables. Broccoli, potato and cabbage, each one more interesting than the next. I also highly recommend the sautéed, spicy eggplant that was like eating purple velvet. China Town has two menus. One menu for the folks who want Chinese/American, and one menu for those who want world class Chinese Cuisine. Next time we try the crab, which isn't on the menu. You have to know somebody and call days in advance to order. More please! China Town Restaurant, 836 East Loop Road. For more information: 272-8390 or 274-3322.
